Vitamin B
B Vitamins are water-soluble and not stored in the body very effectively; therefore they need to be replenished daily.
Insufficiencies may occur easily during times of dieting for weight loss, fasting or consuming too many processed/refined foods and excess sugar.Alcohol and drugs, including antibiotics, also deplete levels of B vitamins.
The B vitamins function as co-enzymes: they assist the enzymes, our biological catalysts, in implementing the tens of thousands of biochemical reactions and metabolic pathways that make life possible.
Enzymes assist energy production, conversion of carbohydrates to glucose, and the metabolism of fat and protein.
The B vitamin group includes the following: B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cyanocobalamin), biotin, folic acid, choline, inositol and PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid).
